STONES ON

THE PATH

Encountering the literary sensibility of Ted Hughes, in particular ‘Rock Has Not Learned’ led to a masterful series of charcoal drawings.

When a drawing takes-off it slowly develops to a point where it has its own inner dynamic and momentum. A struggle then ensues as the surface undergoes constant orchestration, a process of erasure and editing, akin to both forging with hammer and anvil alongside the delicate application charcoal.

Alongside these woks, feeding his rich imagination, are numerous allegorical black and white drawings, and colour paintings, often small in scale, they emerge from the depths of his subconscious peopled with dream like figures and encounters which are not always benign.
